31DC2013 Day 1: Red

Call me crazy, but I am attempting to take part in another nail art challenge. My last one was back in January, and I think I did well keeping up with it and trying different designs. The latest one is a 31 Day Challenge by Sarah from Chalkboard Nails. I will try my best to stick to the challenge, or at least try out new designs for the challenge.

The first day was today and the theme was red. Now, I had so many different ideas going through my head and most of them involved nail dotting tools or nail art brushes, both of which I seem to have lost while having a big clear up. Sensing I will probably need these tools sharpish I have ordered some new cheap ones from eBay, and until they arrive tried out this design.
I used a base of OPI Live and Let Die, which is a beautiful deep green colour, which only needed one coat. It has minute flecks of green, gold and silver flecks, more like dust than glitter running through it, that are more visible to the naked eye than in these pictures.
Secondly, I painted over them with a deep ruby red nail art pen from Rio. It has a nail art pen point, but also a brush, which is what I used to paint haphazard squiggles to emulate flames through the nail. I quite like the design and may try a gold and red version of it next time to emulate flames a little more. It looks like I have dark vampy nails, and then the red hits the light, so I quite like this design for my birthday tomorrow. We are going to Chelsea and will be hitting a Japanese restaurant, so I am looking forward to rocking these nails for that!

If you are doing the challenge I would love to see your links below!
