A few weeks ago I met up with the lovely Ayshe fromDiscovering Beautyand we went to Portabello Market. I wanted to go exploring for my 'A day out in London' project, which is my way of re-discovering the city. I have been to Portabello Market once before years ago, and I remember it being bustling with all the stalls in the street. But on the occassion we went we must have been a little too late to see all the stalls out, but there was still plenty to see.
It is a haven for antique collectors, and fans of jewellery and trinkets. As you can see from my pictures it was the jewellery and the rings in particular that caught my eye! I absolutely loved the rings, especially the ones with the big stones.
Most of the stall holders are very friendly and will happily have a chat with you. Just be sure to ask permission before taking any pictures. Some stall holders are proud of their pieces because many of them have made them themselves, so it is interesting to hear from their perspective about making the items.
There are plenty of cafes to go to along the way or in Notting Hill itself. Be sure to go in plenty of time, and enjoy browsing what is on offer. And do haggle. Many of the prices can be hiked up, so do not accept the first price given. Who can resist a bargain anyway?!
