Week review #12

Wedding madness is unfolding all around me. I am currently back home in Wrexham and doing last minute preparations for my mehndi - my traditional hen night/ pre-wedding party tomorrow.

My friends are coming to stay over from Huddersfield, Cumbria and London and I'm so excited.

I will reveal pictures after the event as I want it all to be a surprise for everyone on the night.

The past week I have been running around trying to fix disasters, buying last minute things and packing. I won't be going back to my flat until I am married! And it was weird leaving it.

Me and Asif had a final meal together yesterday as girlfriend/boyfriend. We won't see each other again until the wedding day! I had this gorgeous chocolate cake below.

A lot is going on at home at the moment in preparation for tomorrow's event- dancing, making things and planning. Very tired. But this is just s note that I won't be posting frequently. I may post updates every now and then though.

Wish me luck!

Review: The Perfect Secret Pure Col Serum

A while ago I was asked if I would like to try Botox in a bottle. I was apprehensive to say the least and had no idea what it would be like. The Perfect Secret Pure Col is a formula which claims to make your skin look more supple, radiant and wrinkle free.
It comes in a white box, with gold writing. It doesn’t look too clinical. The bottle inside is made of frosted glass, with a gold cap either side. I would happy display this on my dressing table.
The only critiscm I have is that it should have an information leaflet inside the box, or on the bottle, but I was sent some press information, I did know what it was about.
The bottle has a little pump to release the product. It is effectively a liquid serum, which absorbs into the skin. I rubbed it in quite well, and it doesn’t disappear too quickly, which is a good thing, and allows you enough time to put your moisturiser over it.
I did notice when it was on it left a little film, which was invisible to touch, but very similar to other serums I have used, in that it looks a little more radiant.
I like that it wasn’t oily, and there was no residue, it sank in well, but allowed enough time to rub it over the skin.
My initial reaction was that I would never use anything with the word botox attached to it, but this isn’t as scary as it sounds. It does say that it can banish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and I probably wasn’t the best tester for this as I don’t have any, but I can say my skin did look more luminous as a result of using it.

Reading up on the information about it, the company says that it can be used as a pick-me-up, at the start of your day, before you go out, or last thing at night. I guess it can be worked into your skincare routine, when ever you would apply moisturiser and foundation and want an extra skin boost.

Perfect Secret is £39.99. To order, please contact Perfect Look & Health on 0191 291 3385 or visit

Week review #11

Hello lovelies,
I am currently on my way back from another busy day in Birmingham. Did lots of wedding related gift shopping and went for dinner with my sister and brother-in-law.

It's three weeks today until my wedding and in the worst stroke of luck I still don't have my outfit. I am expecting it this week, even though it should have come in February. Will wring their necks if it's not here.

I had a back up mehndi outfit made this week. For those who don't know, this is like s traditional Asisn hen night with dholki songs and dancing. The back up outfit is pretty good, so I am happy with that.

My head is all over the place, and can't seem to concentrate on much at the moment. I just want everything to get done in time and for it to go well.

I haven't been up to much else in the past week. I met up withy cousin in London and we had a good catch up. I love bouncing ideas off her and having heart to hearts with her. She is one of my best friends.

I have been trying to grow my nails and keep them strong ahead of wedding. I don't want to wear false nails as I prefer my natural nails. Do you have any tips on keeping them strong and healthy?

Below is a pic of me with a Bourjois sweet kiss lipstick. Can't remember the shade number. What go you think of it?

Clarins extra-firming day cream

I received this cream in last month's Glossybox and have been using it ever since.

Some people who received it were not overly joyed to get this, dubbing it more suitable for mature skin, but personally I love Clarins' products. I have been using them on and off since university, and especially love the Beauty Flash Balm.

This cream is a light peach colour, and has a light scent to it. I can't place what the smell is, but it is pleasant.
The cream itself is very moisturising, a small amount is needed and absorbs into the skin well.

I really liked the cream and would happily buy a full-size bottle.
Have you tried it? What do you think of it?

Kiehl's treats

Hello all,
I have been shopping and decided to stop by my local kiehl's store. I have never tried the products as I cant really justify spending so much on the products unless it's a treat, but it didn't stop me from getting a handful of samples to try.

So my question is this to you kiehl's fans, what do you recommend?

Week review #10

Hello lovelies,
I am back in London after a busy weekend in Wales and Birmingham. Sorry to bore, but this post is going to be wedding planning heavy, so look away now if that's not your thing!

My cousins came to stay for the weekend and we planned my mehndi, the traditional Asian hen night with lots of singing and dancing. The girls are basically in charge of the entertainment and are choreographing dance routines and learning traditional wedding songs to sing with the dholki drum. I was impressed as they got a lot done, which is a big help.

My relatives came around and we were planning the wedding day, traditions and what customs are traditionally are done as part of it.

I think it set in how real and close it is now and I was getting very emotional. I kept bursting into tears at the silliest things. Usually when I was given a gift or my family did something thoughtful or told me their plans for the wedding. I love my family to bits, and they are doing do much for me. It made me realise how amazing they are.

The picture is of me trying out a new lippie yesterday. Not usually my colour, but thought I would try something different. What do you think of it?

Review: Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Hand Treatment

I have been using Elizabeth Arden's Eight Hour Cream for years on my lips when they get chapped, or on my hands when they get too dry, so I knew anything else from the range wouldn't be a disappointment. I got this hand cream a while ago, and it seemed like the perfect time to use it over the winter months. If you are a fan of the original product then you will love this, because it has the same moisturising qualities, without being too greasy. I would just say though don't go crazy when squeezing it out. A little goes a long way, and you will not need as much as you would with other hand creams. If you do use too much your hands can have a greasy after-effect.

Have you tried this hand cream? If you have, what do you think of it?

A day out in London

A few weeks ago I met up with the lovely Ayshe from Discovering Beauty and we went to Portabello Market. I wanted to go exploring for my 'A day out in London' project, which is my way of re-discovering the city. I have been to Portabello Market once before years ago, and I remember it being bustling with all the stalls in the street. But on the occassion we went we must have been a little too late to see all the stalls out, but there was still plenty to see.
It is a haven for antique collectors, and fans of jewellery and trinkets. As you can see from my pictures it was the jewellery and the rings in particular that caught my eye! I absolutely loved the rings, especially the ones with the big stones.
Most of the stall holders are very friendly and will happily have a chat with you. Just be sure to ask permission before taking any pictures. Some stall holders are proud of their pieces because many of them have made them themselves, so it is interesting to hear from their perspective about making the items.
There are plenty of cafes to go to along the way or in Notting Hill itself. Be sure to go in plenty of time, and enjoy browsing what is on offer. And do haggle. Many of the prices can be hiked up, so do not accept the first price given. Who can resist a bargain anyway?!

Review: Bourjois intense eyeshadow in 05

I bought some eyeshadows from Bourjois a while back, but was yet to try them until now. I am a big fan of bourjois eyeshadows already because they are generally highly pigmented, and this one didn't disappoint.
This is the intense style in shade 05, which is a deep green colour, one of my favourite shades.
The packaging is simple, but effective with a snap button on the bottom that helps it stay shut. Inside the top lid is a handy mirror to touch up on the go. The colour is a dark green as I said, but has a bit of a gold undertone to it warming it up. I may be a little biased though as this is one of my go-to shades for a smoky eye for a night out, if I don't want to go for a typical brown colour.
The eyeshadow is really easy to apply, and you don't need too much product on your brush to build up the colour. Take it easy and build it up slowly. I would recommend wearing a good primer under it to help keep it in place.
The swatch below is from one swipe with my fingers. I couldn't find my brush at the time, but it does show how much colour you get from one stroke.
Let me know what you think. Have you tried this colour or any from the range? And what do you think of them?

Week review #8 and #9

Blogging has been a little slow lately because my laptop has broken, so I am trying to make do with my phone. I am trying to schedule some posts for the coming week, so things should be a bit more regular from here on in.

I have had an eventful couple of weeks, but because I haven't been able to load up my pictures on the laptop my week reviews have got neglected. I will give a quick round-up anyway.

I got to attend London Fashion Week for the first time, and went to some shows and presentations. I even got to interview one of the designers! A report will follow on that one. It was great being part of it, but not as amazing as I thought it would be, unless I was at the shows.

I have been up north to meet up with some friends who threw me a lovely hen weekend. It was fun packed, and if you follow me on Instagram you may have seen some of my pictures. I am still debating whether to do a post about it.

Wedding preparations are gearing up. I spent the weekend in Manchester doing a lot of shopping, planning and booking. Seems a bit more real now the invitations are going out, all be it a little late, but everyone knows the date already. It's just over four weeks to go, and it can't come quick enough, or slow enough - depending on what mood I am in.

If anyone can recommend a laptop for me do let me know. I think mine is knackered and it is time to upgrade.

I am debating whether to add a travel section to my blog as I have plenty of days out that I think may be worth documenting. Let me know what you think.

That's all for now!

MUA shopping

Here are a few things I bought from Superdrug. I'm a little obsessed with MUA Cosmetics, and I am loving their nail varnishes. I bought a pearly shade, a clear topcoat, and a blue and silver liquid eyeliner. I have the black already and wear it everyday, so I am looking forward to trying these two out.

Goodbye winter

Can you feel it in the air? You know, that feeling that the darkness is finally lifting? I left work at 5.30 the other day and realised it was light again!

I love the feeling of spring approaching, and very soon we will be putting our clocks forward, or are they going back?!

This picture is of blossom on a tree in my front garden, a lovely sight to come home to.

Just a little note to point out that posting may be a little erratic in the coming weeks. My wedding is fast approaching. The festivities start in three weeks, and the religious ceremony is four weeks away, so there's plenty to do. Understandably the blog won't have my full attention, but I will try my best to post when I can and maybe give you updates if it's not boring you all too much!

Beauty shopping

A couple of weeks ago I went shopping to Topshop in Oxford Circus and found these little beauties. I have a few sets of nail wraps, but still haven't got around to using them. But I couldn't resist these when I saw them because I love the colours and design.

I have also been on the lookout for a lipbrush and this one from Barry M set me back a grand old £1.99! Been using it the past week and I love it.

And lastly I got these two dinky, small soaps from Dr Bronner, which I already love loads. Last time I got a soap it was tea tree, and one of the massive bars. But I think these are a good size for £1 each. I got rose and citrus orange flavours.

Do you have any of these?

Tea Tree Dr Bronner's Magic Soap

I am a big fan of Dr Bronner's Magic Soap and have a few from the range already, so when I got this one in the latest Glossybox I was pleased.

This particular one is Tea Tree, which I didn't have, but was keen to try out. The smell is as you would expect. One thing I have to point out is that although it comes in a bottle it is hard rather than squeezy. This is in fact a good thing as the product is very watery, so therefore would come out too easily if the bottle was softer.

I only used a couple of drops on my hand added with water to lather it up, and that was enough to use it as a facewash, so quite economical.

If you get Glossybox, which one did you get?
